Common mode chokes, also known as line filter, are components designed to suppress electrical interference, commonly used in circuits with AC/DC power supplies, data transmission lines and communication systems. The main purpose of a common mode choke is to limit the amount of unwanted noise, interference or fluctuations, allowing the intended signal to pass through the network without degradation or disruption, thus protecting the equipment being used.TCK-064 is the most commonly used common mode choke. It is designed for application in a variety of electrical and electronic equipment including automobiles, speakers, home theater systems and computer peripherals. It is described as a “low profile, low cost, high performance hot-rolled common mode inductor for EMI/RFI suppression."
The TCK-064 common mode choke consists of two wires, each of which is wound with several turns of copper foil. This winding is surrounded by a ferrite core, and the entire assembly is encapsulated in a resin allowing it to be secured with screws. A resistor is also included in the assembly to provide additional shielding and noise resistance. The two windings are arranged in a configuration commonly referred to as a “bundled” or “star” configuration. This configuration provides increased performance for the TCK-064, making it capable of rejection of up to 70 dB of amplitude modulation, and improved immunity against high frequency interference.
The TCK-064 common mode choke is used to prevent interference that can be caused by ground loops or common mode noise. This type of interference can be caused by systems that are connected to the same ground, such as a laptop computer connected to an external monitor. The noise is generated by the currents that are induced in the ground connection due to the difference in potential between each of the connected systems. By using a common mode choke, the current is diverted away from the electronics and thus prevented from causing any disruption. The choke also reduces the amount of radio frequency that can enter the system, providing increased protection from external sources of signal interference.
In addition to providing protection from ground loops and common mode noise, the TCK-064 can also be used to filter high frequency noise. It can be used to reduce the amount of unwanted noise that is generated by motors in a system, and also to provide additional protection from radio frequency interference. The choke is also designed to provide increased resistance to static electricity, which can be a major cause of operational failures in certain types of equipment.
The TCK-064 common mode choke is an effective solution for reducing electrical interference and high frequency noise in a variety of applications. It is a low-profile, low-cost component that provides improved immunity against interference and improved signal quality. With its ability to reject up to 70 dB of amplitude modulation, it is an ideal choice for systems that require shielding against noise and interference.
