Oscillators are components within an electrical engineering system that offer a repeating waveform with a controlled frequency or amplitude. While they are traditionally seen with timing-based applications, oscillators can be used in many different settings throughout the engineering and scientific fields for a number of purposes like triggering systems or for testing signals. At the core of any oscillator system is essentially a resonant circuit, and for certain components, the TD-16.000MCD-T oscillator stands out in its range of possible applications and its selectivity.
TD-16.000MCD-T Specifications
The TD-16.000MCD-T oscillator has a frequency range from 16.000 MHz to 17.500 MHz and features a 3V operation voltage that can range anywhere from 2.97 V to 3.63 V. Its frequency accuracy is very tight, being at most ±100 ppm (+/– 6.00 kHz), while the temperature stability is also impressively low at ± 50 ppm typically (± 3.00 kHz). The device also has an extremely low current draw of at most 680 µA and a rise and fall time of 15 and 10 ns respectively.
TD-16.000MCD-T Application Fields and Working Principle
The TD-16.000MCD-T oscillator is suitable for a multitude of applications thanks to its extremely narrow frequency range and low current draw, such as transmitting and receiving high fidelity signals or being used for data transmission. It\'s also very useful for applications that require low power and bandwidth.
The TD-16.000MCD-T is a voltage-controlled CMOS oscillator (VCXO) based on the Pierce configuration principle. This configuration, which is one of the most commonly used in oscillator designs, relies on three areas: an inductive feedback network, a frequency-controlling voltage divider network, and an amplifier. Within the Pierce arrangement, the inductive feedback, along with a pair of inverting amplifiers, forms a double-inverting amplifier chain known as a tank circuit. An external capacitor connects the two amplifiers so that oscillation is provoked at the amplifier’s input. The frequency of this oscillator is adjusted with an external voltage, which in turn changes the frequency of the tank circuit.
As a result, the TD-16.000MCD-T oscillator is not only suitable for low processing applications, but also for interference sensitive applications, as it operates on very low current and has a very narrow frequency range.
