The application field of the TMOV14R230M is in the field of transient voltage suppressors (TVSs), also known as metal oxide varistors (MOVs), for use in circuit protection. As with all TVSs and MOVs, the TMOV14R230M protects against the effects of transient overvoltage, providing a low component cost.The TMOV14R230M is a radial leaded varistor with size of 14mm and absorption capability of 230V. It can be used to protect circuits against ESD and surge current. Its maximum energy absorption capacity is 340J and the maximum pulse current is 20kA. It can handle repetitive surge currents ranging from 0.2 to 15kA.The working principle of the TMOV14R230M is based on the fact that, with increase in the magnitude of the applied voltage, a very small pressure change is produced in the varistor material. This change causes a very small amount of current to flow through the device and cause it to dissipate some amount of energy in the form of heat.
