TVS – Varistors,MOVs, are devices used in the electronic circuit which interrupts and dissipates high voltage pulses. These circuits help to provide protection against damages caused by sudden power surges or transients. TMOV20R200M is a special voltage-dependent resistive element with specific application field and working principle.
TMOV20R200M draws its name from its metal-oxide varistors (MOVs) and its resistance load – 20 kilo-ohms with peak pulse current 200A. It is designed for power, data and telephone line protection, switching power supplies, industrial control equipment, and other electronic models. TMOV20R200M is suitable for primary protection and secondary delay protection. It is compliance with international safety standards UL 1449 Edition 4 and CSA C22.2 NO. 199.2-13.
Working Principle
TMOV20R200M works by utilizing the metal-oxide varistors (MOVs). These MOVs devices used in the electronic circuit are made up of two electrodes, one negative and one positive. When exposed to any kind of high voltage, the MOVs component lead to the metal-oxide material to compress, decreasing in resistance and increase in voltage.
When the high voltage reaches a certain peak value, the MOVs component leads to the resistor coil, which is then subjected to move fat motion and it reduces the voltage across the entire circuit. This way, the surge energy is soaked up, functioning as a protective circuit. In order to further protect the circuit, TMOV20R200M also includes a thermal cut-off fuse which melts at certain temperature and disconnects the circuit from the input power.
