It features a dual-issue, dual-pipeline, Harvard architecture, 16-bit RISC-like instruction set processor core with 68 powerful instructions. The processor core is further enhanced by two Floating-point Units (FPUs) for accelerated floating-point operations. It is designed for high performance and low power consumption, with a 260 MHz maximum clock rate and 1.5V core voltage.

The CorePac module also includes two memory interfaces (MIX-2 & MIX-3), an interval timer, two 32-bit link ports and two I/O ports. The two memory interfaces allow the direct connection of external memories such as DRAM, SRAM, FLASH, and ROM. It supports multiple memory types and can be operated in single-bank or dual-bank configurations. The two link ports are shared by the MIX-2 and MIX-3 memory interfaces and allow connection to external memory devices, communication peripherals and other CorePacs.

The DSP also has four 32-bit general-purpose I/O ports for connections to external peripherals. These ports can be used for debug and communications, ADC, DAC and other interfacing. It also includes a 64-bit wide controller and peripheral bus (CPB) that connects all of the CorePac modules.
