TNETE2201BPHD is an integrated IEEE 802.3 compliant integrated transceiver solution from Texas Instruments (TI). It is used in applications such as network interface cards, switches, routers and many more. It is an ideal choice for low-cost and low-power Ethernet applications.Application FieldTNETE2201BPHD is an integrated transceiver solution for Industrial Ethernet (IE T) applications. Its feature set includes high quality (including noise information measure), low power consumption, and easy integration. It supports low power operation at 10 Mbps, full duplex operation at 100 Mbps, and half duplex operation at 1000 Mbps. It is ideal for cost and power sensitive Fiber-optic/Ethernet applications, as well as applications requiring high performance and low latency.Examples of applications include: CommScope\'s cPanel-400 Ethernet extender, Smart Grid Communicator from ICSolutions, PVSComm from Echelon and SensorSwift from Microchip Technology.Additionally, the TNETE2201BPHD integrated transceiver also is capable of supporting various types of networks. These networks includes both Layer 2 (data link) and Layer 3 (network) protocols, such as Layer 2 switching, Layer 3 routing, and IEEE 802.1p (L2 QoS) and IPv6.Working PrincipleThe TNETE2201BPHD transceiver consists of the TNETE2201PHY and TNETE2201BMAC device. The TNETE2201PHY component is responsible for transceiving the data frames while the TNETE2201BMAC component performs media access control. The TNETE2201PHY chip interfaces with the Ethernet Media Independent Interface (MII), which contains a bus for management communication. Control information and data is sent over the MII communication interface according to layer 2 signaling protocol. The management port is also used for auto negotiation of the link speed between the two Ethernet devices.Data frames are transferred between the two Ethernet devices through the MII. The TNETE2201PHY chip is responsible for receiving and transmitting data frames. The chip’s serial interface is connected to the Ethernet physical layer protocol and performs 8b/10b encoding and decoding, data scrambling and descrambling, and frame synchronization. Additionally, the chip is capable of error detection, numerical equalization, and equalization gain adjustment, which provide a greater degree of reliability.Finally, the TNETE2201BMAC component is responsible for media access layer functions such as automatic addressing and flow control. The TNETE2201BMAC also supports auto-negotiation to support both full-duplex as well as half-duplex operation. Once the speed and direction of the communication have been established, the transmission is performed based on the IEEE 802.3 specification.
