The TPA2008D2PWPR is a special type of audio amplifier designed for portable audio applications. It is a novel power supply audio amplifier with good current drive capability, low output noise and low distortion.

The TPA2008D2PWPR is a high-performance, low-noise, Class-D amplifier that operates from a single lithium-ion cell. It integrates dual power supply, a low-distortion Class-D modulator and a low-noise post-amplifier in a compact 3.8 mm × 2.9 mm surface-mount package. This amplifier can provide up to 1.5 W of output power at 8 Ω at 5 V supply and up to 2.5 W at 4 Ω at 5 V supply. The output swing is impressive, with a maximum peak-to-peak output voltage of up to 1.9 Vp-p at 72 kHz.

The TPA2008D2PWPR uses a proprietary rechargeable battery conversion technology to ensure high output power. It also provides low quiescent current of 350 µA and wide working temperatures of –40 to +105°C. The package is also designed for high thermal performance to enable efficient heat dissipation.

The TPA2008D2PWPR is designed to operate from a single 5 V supply and can be used in battery-powered applications. The TPA2008D2PWPR Class-D modulator then converts the differential voltage across the input stage into a digital signal that modulates the switching of a pair of power MOSFETs. This modulated digital signal is then fed to the output post-amplifier, where it is amplified, filtered and sent to the speaker. The integrated headphone amplifier follows the same process, but at much lower power outputs.

In addition to its good current drive capability and low output noise, the TPA2008D2PWPR also features an integrated variable gain control, adjustable switching frequency and overload protection. The overload protection feature helps protect the amplifier from overloads and excessive current, keeping it from being damaged or distorting the sound.
