TPS65321EVM is an evaluation board focusing on DC/DC and AC/DC (Off-Line) Switch Mode Power Supplies (SMPS). It is designed to enable customers to evaluate the TPS65321, an integrated converter that includes both a DC-DC controller and a PWM controller. The board provides a complete, ready-for-use solution for flexible AC/DC and DC/DC applications; including machines, consumer electronics products, servers, and other applications requiring high power efficiency and data integrity. The evaluation board allows customers to quickly evaluate and develop their own designs by using the general hardware platform already provided, including a complete DC/DC Buck converter with active/passive components.
The TPS65321EVM board consists of four main blocks: a power supply, an AC/DC rectifier, a DC/DC converter, and a user interface. The power supply includes an AC outlet, a line filter, and a fuse. The AC/DC rectifier converts AC input to DC output, which is thenregulated according to user settings. The DC/DC converter is built around the TPS65321 combination controller. It includes two buck-boost and a buck controller combined into one PWM signal allowing flexible design and high-efficiency operation. The user interface includes a JTAG port, LEDs for indication, and test points for probing.
The TPS65321EVM evaluation board is designed to give designers the flexibility necessary to explore all aspects of designing and building a DC/DC or AC/DC (Off-Line) Switch Mode Power Supply. The board features a wide switching range, from 10 MHz to 400 MHz, andit can be programmed by either JTAG interface or by usingits GPIO pins.This capabilityt allows users to fully leverage the features of the TPS as well as explore possible applications that require custom programming. The board also includes overvoltage protection (OVP), undervoltage protection (UVP) and overcurrent protection (OCP) in order to prevent critical damage to the unit.
The evaluation board also provides an adjustable soft-start feature for controlled start-up and Board Thermal Protection (BTP) in order to prevent the board from overheating. The BTP feature reduces the output voltage automatically after a temperature threshold is reached. Moreover, the board features an auto-shutdown option that disconnects the dc output from the load to avoid further damage. Furthermore, a compact heatsink is mounted on top of the board to ensure proper thermal control during heavy use.
The TPS65321EVM evaluation board not only makes evaluating the TPS65321 controller easy, but it also offers designers a platform to develop their own innovative DC/DC or AC/DC (off-line) SMPS designs. The board\'s flexible architecture allows for adjusting settings and programming based on user needs. It also includes overvoltage, undervoltage, and overcurrent protection, a wide switching range, and a compact heatsink to ensure proper thermal control. The ability to tailor the power supply to the application helps designers stay ahead of the competition.
