TPSM84A21EVM-808 is an evaluation board which provides an example implementation of Texas Instruments’ TPSM84A21 step-down converter. This evaluation board enables development, demonstration, and performance verification of a synchronous step-down, high-efficiency, non-isolated DC/DC converter.

The TPSM84A21 synchronous buck converter evaluation board consists of an on-board TPSM84A21 control IC which is connected to a buck converter power stage. The control loop for the power stage is built with the TPSM84A21. The on-board TPSM84A21 acts as the main controller, driving a high-side MOSFET and a low-side MOSFET. The buck converter power stage is connected to two Flyback-type transformers, and integrated circuit to provide feedback control and protection.

The DC/DC converter evaluation board operates in critical conduction mode with high switching frequency of 1.2 to 2 MHz to achieve compact size, low switching losses, and high efficiency. The TPSM84A21 also features PFM/PWM auto-shift, built-in boost diode, adjustable Soft Start, built-in Level Shift logic, turn-off logic and so on. The control IC’s integrated detection circuits allow for output UVLO, OVP, and OCP protection, while other protection features include rough handling protection functions.

The power stage of TPSM84A21 evaluation board can deliver up to 10A output current. The TPSM84A21EVM-808 evaluation board can be set to any output voltage from 1.2V up to 12V. Synchronization is supported, as well as the selection of several PFC options (ocppfc, OCP, OVP, PFP/PFM, etc.) for the operation.
