The UCC24636EVM is a high performance evaluation board from Texas Instruments for off-line switch mode power supplies (SMPS). This system is capable of providing regulated output power from an unregulated AC input. UCC24636EVM is intended to be used by device manufacturers and power supply designers to evaluate the performance of the UCC24636 family of gate drivers used in switch mode power supplies. It also features a high-efficiency output stage with an external sense resistor to provide accurate over-temperature, over-voltage, and over-current protection. The evaluation board includes an integrated AC line filter, an active inrush limiting circuit, and an adjustable peak current detection circuit.
The operating principle of UCC24636EVM is based on a switch mode power supply (SMPS) topology. The board employs an unregulated AC input voltage range of 85 V to 265 V AC and provides an active current limit of 20A. During the normal operation, the input AC power is rectified and filtered by the integrated EMI filter and then fed to the UCC24636 energy-efficient dual gate driver. The UCC24636 device drives a low on-state resistance (RDS(ON)) MOSFET half-bridge or full-bridge switch. The output stage can be powered by either the UCC28910, UCC28950, or UCC28980 integrated power supply controllers.
The peak current-limit feature allows the output current to be accurately monitored and controlled to ensure that it does not exceed the protective current limit. Furthermore, the output MOSFETS are monitored by a differential voltage sense circuit with a differential amplifier to maintain a constant output voltage. This solution ensures precise control of the MOSFET switch and LCD power supply for improved efficiency. The PD pin on the UCC24636 can be used to control the UCC28910, UCC28950, or UCC28980 integrated power supply controllers.
