UCC2802DTR Application Field and Working PrincipleThe UCC2802DTR is an integrated offline switcher for AC-DC power conversion applications. It is designed to provide increased efficiency, higher power factor, and low standby power compared with traditional half-bridge and full-bridge architectures. The UCC2802DTR integrates several functions such as one-time programming, pre-bias start-up, current limit, under voltage lockout, over voltage protection, and additional fault protection.Due to its high power conversion efficiency, low standby powerconsumption, and ability to operate without output capacitors, the UCC2802DTR is particularly well suited for use in power supplies and motor drives, such as those found in consumer, industrial and healthcare appliances. Such applications include personal computers, printers, Kitchen appliances and air conditioners. In addition, this device can also be used in lighting applications such as LED lighting.The UCC2802DTR contains a Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) controller, two MOSFETs (switches), an optocoupler, and a variety of protection functions. It is designed for flyback topology based principles of operation.The UCC2802DTR works by switching a primary side MOSFET (Q1) at a frequence of 68 kHz, in response to feedback from the secondary side of the power conversion circuit. The PWM controller senses the energy stored in the output inductor and switches the primary side MOSFET at the optimal time to achieve the desired power output.The MOSFETs used in the UCC2802DTR are high frequency, low loss devices which are capable of operating at much higher switching frequencies than traditional devices. This enables the UCC2802DTR to achieve higher efficiency, greater power density, and reduced cost compared to other devices.The optocoupler provides a means of measuring the output voltage on the secondary side of the power conversion circuit.
