UCC28083PG4 is an integrated AC-DC/DC-DC/DC-AC offline addressable flyback controller from Texas Instruments. It is designedto work with an affordable MOSFET to develop a complete lower cost and smaller form factor AC-DC/DC-DC/DC-AC offline switching regulator power supply.

Working Principle

The integrated UCC28083PG4 works with an MOSFET and transformers to provide a complete offline flyback controller. The controller incorporates many features such as soft-start capability, precise trip point on/off control, drain-current limit, peak current mode control, programmable average current limit and adjustable line voltage compensation.

The UCC28083PG4 controller senses the primary side flyback voltages to estimate the total output power, program the peak primary current level, decrement the peak current level dVloop/dt trip point, calculate the VCC supply voltage, and detect the end of the off time. All these operations are performed with a high accuracy, making the UCC28083PG4 ideal for ac/dc power converters.

With the integrated internal level-shift circuitry, the peak current is set by the external resistor, Rpeak. The UCC28083PG4 can be programmed to operate the output power between the minimum and maximum set points, thereby allowing a wide selection of duty cycle and output power.
