The UCC28702DBVT from Texas Instruments is an offline switcher designed to convert AC sources to the desired voltages and frequencies in a closed loop operation. It is ideal for use in applications requiring low voltage, high power conversion such as power supplies for telecommunications and consumer electronics. It has a wide input voltage range (3V-225V AC) and can be used for both low and high power conversion. It is capable of delivering over 15A output at efficiencies up to 92%.

The UCC28702DBVT functions as both a full (with a minimum frequency of 10kHz) and a peak switcher, allowing it to be used in a variety of power conversion applications. In full-conversion mode, the device operates in a closed loop with an adjustable reference voltage to control the output. In peak-switching mode, the output current is controllable through the adjustment of the current sense comparator. It has a very fast response time (in the range of nanoseconds) in order to prevent unwanted current spikes in the output and keep it steady.

It features programmable line and load regulation and is capable of fast transient and surge protection. The device has a frequency dithering feature, and can be programmed to operate at any frequency from 50kHz to 3000kHz.

The UCC28702DBVT also has flexible under-voltage lockout and over-current protection with auto recovery. It also has a programmable gate driver capability, enabling it to be used for improved power control. All of these features are contained in a thermally efficient PowerPACT™ package.

The UCC28702DBVT can be used in a variety of power supply applications, such as LED lighting, consumer appliances, telecom equipment, and automotive electronics. Its very low operating current (0.455μA typical at 100VAC) and wide input voltage range make it ideal for energy efficiency applications.
