UPC2798GR-A is a popular double-balanced mixer, which is designed for frequency up-converting in the HF to microwave frequencies range. With stable performance over -40°C to 85°C range of temperature, it is also suitable for some extremely harsh environments, such as those used in military applications. Utilizing a small form factor, UPC2798GR-A requires minimal space on a platform for integration. The RF output of the mixer has broadband power supplementation that helps to extend the dynamic range of mixer to about 22 dBm. Furthermore, UPC2798GR-A has built-in reference level circuit scan systems, which helps to improve the linearity and dynamic range of RF mixer.Working Principle
UPC2798GR-A upconverter mixer works on balanced diode quadrupler mixer architectures, which is composed of research grade double tantalum and two small-signal diodes. The Schottky diodes and double-balanced nature of the mixer make sure that UPC2798GR-A has excellent suppression of both the LO and RF conversion power even with large input mismatch values. Moreover, the mixer also has a single-pole double-throw (SPDT) switch, which helps make the mixer compatible with wide range of frequency ranges. The LO input of the mixer is coupled with the RF RF inputs through a pair of 90° hybrid couplers. Then, the LO signal is multiplied by four through the double tantalum. The core of the mixer works on balanced diode quadrupler architecture. This architecture consists of two single-pole double-throw (SPDT) switches, two low noise amplifier (LNA) stages, two parallel-connected diodes, two amplifiers and two shielding resistors. When an oscillating signal is imputed into the core of the mixer, it multiplies the frequency of the RF input signal and the result is an upconverted RF signal, which is fed to the RF output of the mixer.Conclusion
