Application Field

The UPGH111-1REC2-2919-28 circuit breaker is designed for general circuit protection in a residential or commercial application. It is suitable for use as a single pole, double pole, or three-pole breaker for 120/240 or 120/208 volt systems. The breaker is provided with a thermal-magnetic trip unit for overload and short circuit protection. It is rated for 15, 20, or 25 amperes. It has a standard toggle switch for manual on/off operation and it can also be remotely operated. It comes with a shunt trip option that allows remote trip operation with a remotely operated solenoid.

Working Principle

The UPGH111-1REC2-2919-28 circuit breaker has a thermal-magnetic trip unit which is composed of two parts. The first is a thermal overload element which is a bimetal strip. The bimetal strip is connected to the breaker’s trip lever and senses the current passing through the breaker. If the current passing through the breaker exceeds the breaker’s amperage rating, the bimetal strip will heat up and eventually cause the trip lever to disconnect the breaker from the circuit.

The second part of the trip unit is a magnetic element. The magnetic element senses the rapid changes in current and trips the breaker more quickly than the thermal element. This is important for protection against short circuits and ground faults. If a short circuit or ground fault occurs, the rapid change in current passes through the magnetic element resulting in the trip lever disconnecting the breaker from the circuit.
