A TVS, or Transient Voltage Suppressor, is used to protect a circuit or component from high voltage transient events. The device can also be referred to as a Metal Oxide Varistor (MOV). MOVs and Varistors are two different types of TVSs designed for suppressing transients over different voltage and energy levels. While Varistors are designed to limit voltage and provide protection against over-voltage and power-surge-related damages, MOVs are designed to limit current.
