V14E40PL1T is one of the many varistors or Metal Oxide Varistors (MOV) which are commonly used in various electrical systems. The device is constructed with layers of zinc oxide (ZnO) and an inner core of tin, nickel and zinc. Its size varies according to its application, usually in the range of 1.2mm to 1 inch in diameter. Its Voltage Peak Pulse (Vpk) is usually around 400V.Varistors or MOVs are protective components which are used in a wide range of electrical circuits. This type of component is designed to clamp or limit transient voltage surge voltages, or transient important over volatge transients, in all types of circuits such as motor, telecommunication, IT, industrial, audio, etc.The working principle behind the V14E40PL1T is based on the principle of non-linear resistance. In this type of movement, once the transient voltage exceeds the breakdown voltage the MOV will present an extremely high resistance (up to 1000 times higher than the original resistance). This provides protection, as the current is diverted away from the sensitive components in the device.The V14E40PL1T is designed mainly for electronic circuit protection and has wide application fields in Power Supplies, AC/DC protections, storage protections, over current and over voltage protections and many other applications.In AC/DC protection, the V14E40PL1T is designed to protect against transient overvoltage that commonly occur during switching of motors or other automatic electronic circuits. It will reduce the voltage peaks that occur during the rapid changes of flow of electricity, thus helping to prevent the device from being damaged.In overcurrent protection, the device will act as a short circuit and limit the current flowing through the circuit. This helps to protect against sudden changes in the current which can cause damage to components in the circuit.In overvoltage protection, the V14E40PL1T will act in the same way as in the case of overcurrent protection and limit the voltage that is flowing through the circuit.
