Working Principle of V150LT1PX2855
The V150LT1PX2855 is basically a nonlinear resistor whose voltage/current characteristics are highly nonlinear. It is designed with a Zinc Oxide element and special ceramic/polymer multilayer structure. This multilayer structure processes the nonlinearities required for voltage/current suppression. When a transient voltage begins to rise on the power line the V150LT1PX2855 MOV initiates an effective reverse current path which clamps the voltage down to a safe level.
In order to initiate this reverse current path, the voltage should exceed a specific threshold voltage. This threshold voltage is determined by the MOV’s design and it is typically in the approximate range of 3V to 40V. If the voltage exceeds this threshold, the MOV begins to conduct and it reduces the voltage to a safe level.
In general, the V150LT1PX2855 is able to respond to the fast-ramping voltage transients within nanoseconds and clamp them down to safe levels. After the current transient is gone, the MOV instantly stops and reverts to its open-state. As a result, the MOV supplies graceful protection to the powered electronics.
