Surge protective devices (SPDs) are essential components for the protection of electrical systems and their components from electrical surges and overvoltages. The varistor body contains semiconductive grains intermittently connected with a thin oxide layer that when exposed to a high voltage, will offer a low-resistance path, thus limiting the output voltage level and avoiding destruction or damage to the circuitry. The surface state of the ceramic varistor will influence the electrical parameters for a given pressure. The varistor has a voltage limit that is to be applied in order to protect the device from damage while preventing falseoperation of the SPD. The VDRS10P275TSE series has a voltage rating of 10 to 27 VDC, with a standard voltage rating of 10 VDC.

The working principle of the VDRS10P275TSE series is relatively straightforward and effective: when the input voltage rises above the specified clamping voltage, the ceramic varistor is triggered and the current is diverted to ground through the device which in turn clamps the voltage down to the rated value.
