A varistor, or voltage-dependent resistor (VDR), is a device that can be used to protect electronic components from overvoltage transients.VDRS14G035TME is one of them. It can provide protection for the following appliactions:

All Varistors are designed around a ceramic core, which is imparted with a permanently ranked network of zinc oxide particles. When a transient voltage is applied, it develops a PN junction. Subsequently, when a certain voltage level is applied, current can flow through and protect against transient voltages.
The VDRS14G035TME has a symmetric bidirectional design to handle both positive and negative transient voltages. It is mainly designed for Telecom applications where it can be used to protect against high power transients. Its dual-side symmetrical structure allows better clamping performance and its wide frequency bandwidth covers from 1 MHz to 100 MHz.
The major working principle of the VDRS14G035TME is to limit the peak voltage to a predefined safe level. This is done by using a combination of the two components – the Zinc Oxide materials and the shielding external components. The Zinc Oxide material, also known as ZnO, acts as the core of the Varistor and it is responsible for absorbing the surge energy of the incoming transient. When the voltage exceeds the Varistor’s rated clamping voltage, the ZnO material will quickly convert the electrical energy into heat energy, thus limiting the peak voltage.
The shielding external components will then protect the sensitivity of the ZnO material by absorbing the heat energy produced by the ZnO. The external shielding components are usually in the form of a heat conducting plate or a conductive foam material. This will dissipate the excess heat away from the Varistor, thus allowing it to work efficiently and maintain its clamping voltage.
The VDRS14G035TME is an important device in protecting against overvoltage transients.
