DC-DC Converters are power electronic devices that convert an unregulated input voltage to a regulated and adjustable output voltage and current. The VE-261-IX is a family of fixed frequency isolated DC-DC converters specifically designed for industrial, telecom, medical, and automotive markets.

The VE-261-IX is a high-efficiency series featuring an adjustable output, low noise operation, low ripple & noise, high accuracy, high power density, and fast transient response. It accepts an input voltage from 8 to 36 Volts and produces an output of 1.5 to 16 Volts with an efficiency of up to 96% and a low output ripple and noise.

The VE-261-IX features an adjustable soft start for controlling the inrush current at start-up, as well as overvoltage protection, overheat protection, and input reverse polarity protection. It also features a high operating frequency, up to 1 MHz for improved power density. The converter also offers internal or external synchronization.

The VE-261-IX is a highly efficient and reliable solution for a variety of applications. It is ideally suited for use in a variety of general-purposed applications such as distributed power architectures, voltage step-up and downs, negative output regulation, Point-Of-Load (POL) conversion, and High Voltage DC-DC conversion.

The working principle of the VE-261-IX converter varies depending on the type of converter. Generally speaking, there are two primary categories of converters: Switching converters and Linear converters.

Switching converters operate by rapidly switching an inductor on and off to transfer energy to the output stage, while Linear converters transfer energy through a series of resistive-capacitive (RC) stages.

The VE-261-IX switching converter uses the principle of coupled inductors to transfer energy to the output stage. The primary side of the converter consists of a switch, two primary coils, and a filter inductor. The main switch is turned on at a fixed frequency, and energy is stored in the primary coils and inductor. This energy is then transferred to the secondary side, where a rectifier diode and filter capacitor convert the voltage into a regulated DC output.

VE-261-IX linear converters operate by transferring energy through a series of RC stages. The primary circuit consists of a transistor and an inductor, while the secondary circuit contains a rectifier diode and a filter capacitor. When the switch is on, the inductor stores energy while the transistor conducts current from the input to the secondary circuit. The rectifier diode and filter capacitor then convert the current into a regulated DC output.

Glass passivated MBRs are used for the rectifier and transistor switching in the VE-261-IX. An advanced packaging process is also used to provide better thermal performance and increased reliability. The VE-261-IX can be used for a variety of applications, from distributed power architectures to negative output regulation.
