DC DC Converters

A DC-DC converter is an electronic component that can convert a direct current (DC) voltage from one level to another, usually with the same power. DC-DC converters are commonly used in portable electronic devices such as laptop computers, cell phones, and iPod players, as they can convert the batteries\' DC voltage to acceptable levels for the device. VE-2TP-EY Application Field and Working Principle

The VE-2TP-EY series DC-DC converter is an ultra wide input voltage surface mount regulated power module. It has an inputvolage range of 4.5V to 60V and outputs of 3.3V, 5V and 12V. The on-board EMI filter promises trouble-free operation in various kinds of environments. It can also provide exceptional full-load efficiency and reliability, making it suitable for a wide range of applications where medium-power levels and small footprint are required.

The product works based on a buck or step-down topology. It is designed with an integrated switch tube and an EMI filter. The input voltage is applied to the circuit through the EMI filter and is then transformed into AC voltage by the switch tube. This AC voltage then goes through the transformer and is rectified to a DC voltage. Finally, the voltage is filtered and regulated by the output stage circuitry. The output voltage is kept stable throughout the operational range.

The VE-2TP-EY series DC-DC converter also uses a current foldback method for overload and short-circuit protection. During overload or short-circuit situations, the output current is limited to protection levels and the module will automatically restart after the fault is removed. This product also offers additional features such as input under voltage and over voltage protection, output over current protection, and thermal protection.
