DC-DC converters, also known as DC-DC power supplies, are electronic components that convert direct current (DC) input voltage to an output voltage of different amplitude and frequency. They are widely used in various types of applications including industrial automation, robotics, aerospace, automotive, and communication systems. The VE-B3T-MW-F2 is a line of DC-DC converter modules developed by Vicor Corporation.The VE-B3T-MW-F2 is a high-efficiency “two-stage” DC-DC converter module (fig. 1). The first stage is a buck converter which reduces the input voltage to a lower level using a switching transistor. The second stage uses a synchronous rectifier to convert the reduced voltage to the desired output voltage. The switching frequency of the synchronous rectifier can be adjusted through an internal control loop, allowing for size and cost reduction. The VE-B3T-MW-F2 is available in two output power ratings: 7.5W and 15W. Output voltage setting is supported through an external resistor divider and the offered tolerance is +/- 20%.
