DC-DC converters are electric power source devices used to convert a direct current (DC) input to a different DC output voltage either through an AC or DC intermediary. DC-DC converters provide a regulated DC output voltage that can vary from an input voltage of around 6V up to hundreds of volts. DC-DC converters are generally divided into two types based on the intermediary used – alternating current (AC) or direct current (DC) – and offer excellent electrical efficiency, cost, and weight characteristics.
The VE-B44-MW-S is a DC-DC converter designed to convert a DC input of 4.5V to 10V to a DC output of 3.3V to 6V. In order to provide good efficiency and low voltage drop across the MOSFETs, the VE-B44-MW-S uses a Low Quiescent Current (LQC) structure. The LQC topology operates with an ON-time of 1/3 of the total switching period, keeping the output voltage in steady state and reducing the power loss due to the conduction loss of the MOSFET. In addition, the LQC design minimizes the output voltage ripple, resulting in an increased output voltage accuracy compared to traditional buck-boost converters.
The VE-B44-MW-S is housed in a small SOT-23 package and is easy to use. It has excellent electrical performance characteristics, making it suitable for applications that require low output ripple voltage and low EMI noise. It is ideal for use in automotive systems, consumer products, industrial sensors, and other electronic devices requiring a step-down voltage conversion.
