In recent years, the application of DC-DC converters has seen an explosive growth with millions of such converters installed in automobiles, industrial inverters, and telecommunication systems, where reliable conversion of electrical energy at different voltage levels is required. DC-DC converters are broadly classified based on the semiconductor technology used, such as silicon transistors, GaN devices, and IGBTs.The VE-J4Y-EZ-S is a high-power DC-DC converters with a capacity of 200kW. It is designed for use in telecommunication systems, where reliable and efficient conversion of energy from dc to dc at different voltage levels is essential. The VE-J4Y-EZ-S has an operating voltage range of 400V to 600V, typical efficiency of 96%, and power factor of at least 0.95.The VE-J4Y-EZ-Sworks based on the principle of a boost converter. A boost converter is an electrical circuit that is used to convert a source of dc power to a higher dc voltage. The boost converter works by increasing the voltage across the input, while keeping the current constant, thereby storing energy in the inductor, the switch, and the output capacitor. This stored energy is then used to supply power to the load at a higher voltage.The VE-J4Y-EZ-S comprises of three main components – an inductor, a diode, and a power MOSFET – and a few other circuit components such as capacitors, resistors, and a control IC. The inductor stores energy when the switch is closed and releases it when the switch is opened. The diode passes current in only one direction and prevents the inductor energy from reversing direction. The power MOSFET is the switching element which, when activated, connects the input voltage to the output voltage. The control IC is responsible for regulating the amount of power transferred from the input to the output as well as the voltage across the output. It does this by monitoring the voltage across the output and adjusting the duty cycle of the power MOSFET accordingly.The working of the VE-J4Y-EZ-S is demonstrated with a simple example. When the switch is closed, the current flowing through the inductor increases, thereby storing energy in the inductor and the output capacitor. When the switch is opened, the inductor releases the stored energy, which is used to power the load. At the same time, the diode is now activated, which allows the current to flow in only one direction. This prevents the current from reversing direction, thereby ensuring that the energy stored in the inductor is not wasted. The power MOSFET and the control IC work together to control the amount of power and voltage transferred from the input to the output. This is done by adjusting the duty cycle of the power MOSFET according to the desired voltage across the output.The VE-J4Y-EZ-S is a great choice for applications where reliable and efficient conversion of energy from dc to dc at different voltage levels is necessary.
