DC-DC converters provide intermediate power conversion between different voltage levels, enabling voltage transformation from a higher level down to a lower level (step-down operation). When used in power management applications, they also provide isolation, making electronic systems design much simpler by providing noise-free electrical signals, which are crucial for the appropriate operation and protection of today’s electronic systems.

The VE-JNZ-CY-F3 series of DC-DC converters provides a wide variety of features ideal for a broad range of applications, including voltage transformation of up to 200% the input voltage, efficiency of up to 96%, high energy conversion, and an expansive temperature range (-40°C to +105°C).

From an external perspective, the VE-JNZ-CY-F3 series of converters includes a single or dual output power supply, a power transformer, a logic control section, and a shielding cover. Internally, the VE-JNZ-CY-F3 series includes a high-performance transistor, a rectifier bridge, a storage capacitor, an inductor, and a few integrated components.

When designing a system, two configuration forms are usually encountered: constant voltage, and constant current. When on constant voltage, the output voltage of the VE-JNZ-CY-F3 series converters is kept consistent regardless of load. When in constant current, the output current is regulated to maintain stability.

Constant voltage configuration of the VE-JNZ-CY-F3 series is achieved by setting the reference voltage in the logic control section, which drives the high-performance transistor on the input. Together, the transistor and rectifier bridge create an AC-DC converter which is then smoothed by the inductor, and stored by the output capacitor. Thus, the output voltage remains constant regardless of load variations.

For constant current configuration, the reference voltage also needs to be set in the logic control section, but this time the high-performance transistor is driven to provide a constant current through the load, rather than a constant voltage. This means that if the load changes, the output current remains stable and the output voltage will be adjusted accordingly.

The VE-JNZ-CY-F3 series of converters provides an array of features which make them suitable for a wide range of applications from small step-down DC-DC converters for consumer electronics to industrial grade step-up/step-down power engineering applications. The ability to set the converter to either a constant voltage or constant current configuration gives the user more flexibility and control over the output voltage and current. Furthermore, the high efficiency and expansive temperature range allow for the converters to be used in demanding and/or extreme environments.
