TVS – Varistors, MOVs are widely applied across multiple kinds of electrical and electronic circuits to absorb and react to excess voltage conditions in system. The VE07M00250K is one of the products in the family, it is a Metal Oxide Varistor (MOV) providing optimum surge protection to both Extremely Low Voltage (ELV) or High Voltage (HV) applications.
The VE07M00250K, with its superior endurance performance, is well-suited for hazardous locations. It is designed to offer excellent clamping action and surge current capabilities, while still provide a cost effective solution. Characteristics of this range include a standard disk shape housed in a thermally stable case material, very low leakage current, easy installation and fast response. It has F-class rating UL 94V-0, and a high tolerance rating of +/- 10%.
Varistors are nonlinear, voltage dependent, resistors with a variable resistance that changes in proportion with the applied voltage. When an overvoltage occurs, the resistance quickly drops and the varistor will allow current toflow. At the same time, it acts like an open circuit, isolating the circuit resistance from the effects of the overvoltage.
As applied to the VE07M00250K, the MOV relies on its design characteristic to allow the transient voltage or spike to be correctly clamped and dissipated. When the spike occurs, the varistor will lower its resistance, allowing a very small portion of the spike to pass and be limited, while the rest is diverted and grounded. This process of clamps and diverts the transient voltage protects the system from being damaged.
Equally important to the operation of the VE07M00250K is how it works in over-temperature conditions. Most varistors are thermally induced to enter a non-conducting (open circuit) state when temperature exceeds overcurerent trip level.
