DC-DC converters provide a useful mechanism forSTEPPING UP or DOWN an input voltage to a different output voltage, and are frequently employed in embedded applications where the nominal battery voltage is far greater than the voltage needed by the device.
The VI-2NZ-MW-F2 is a 30 W DC-DC converter, designed to convert an input voltage of 4.5 – 28 V DC to a regulated output voltage of 5V or 12V. The converter is designed for use with lead acid batteries and other industrial power sources, and due to its wide input voltage range, is ideal for use in mobile applications.
The VI-2NZ-MW-F2 is a switching-type converter, built around a buck converter circuit, and employs a feedback loop consisting of a voltage divider, reference voltage, and error amplifier. The feedback loop monitors the output voltage at the terminals, and any difference from the setpoint is corrected by the converter operating the switching signal delivered to the power MOSFET.
The VI-2NZ-MW-F2 utilises an oscillator and the MOSFET to create a switching signal, which is subsequently compared to the voltage divider feedback signal and adjusted if and when necessary. During normal operation, the MOSFET will switch at a fixed frequency, alternately connecting and disconnecting the input voltage to the output, thus achieving a regulation in the output voltage. The switching signal is inverted to invert the output voltage.
The converter also features short circuit protection, and thermal shutdown, making it safe to use in harsh environments. The device also features a built in de-rate function, which reduces strain on the circuit while operating in higher ambient temperatures.
The VI-2NZ-MW-F2 DC-DC converter is an ideal solution for embedded applications where wide input voltage range, low power consumption, and stable output voltage are essential. With its high efficiency, robust design, and wide operating temperature range, the VI-2NZ-MW-F2 provides a great solution for many applications.
