DC DC Converters

A DC-DC converter is an electronic power supply device that converts DC (direct current) input power to a differently regulated DC output voltage. Direct current (DC) is the unidirectional flow of electric charge. Typical DC-DC converters take an input voltage of 36V, but some are capable of up to 515V. The output voltage is adjustable, or continuously variable in certain cases. The most common type of DC-DC converter is the buck-boost converter.

VI-B3M-EU-S Application Field and Working Principle

The VI-B3M-EU-S is a single-output industrial DC-DC converter with a maximum continuous output power of 50W. It features a small package with a wide voltage input range from 36V to 95V and is suitable for applications such as industrial control systems, telecommunications, instrumentation, and automotive batteries. This converter is designed with constant current and constant voltage regulation, allowing for high efficiency over a wide range of load conditions. The VI-B3M-EU-S also features over-voltage, over-current, and short-circuit protection that are all compliant with the EN 55011 Class B standard. The maximum operating temperature is 70°C.

The VI-B3M-EU-S features an advanced operating principle called “fixed frequency/constant voltage/constant current” (FFCVC). It works by maintaining a constant output voltage, even if the input voltage varies. The output current is also held constant, and the peak-current-mode-controlled pulse width modulation keeps the power output consistent.
