DC–DC converters are devices that turn direct current (DC) from one voltage level to another. The VI-B5L-IX-F1 is a DC–DC converter designed to provide power conversion from a range of 6-36V dc input to a regulated 5V dc output with up to 10 Watts of output power. This model offers the benefits of wide input voltage range, adjustable output voltage, fast transient response, wide temperature range, and high efficiency.

This device uses a synchronous buck-boost converter topology which utilizes two buck-boost stages in series, with active power factor correction, to provide the desired voltage transformation. The input voltage range is wide enough to allow direct operation from 48V batteries and an integrated MOSFET allows for seamless transitions from buck boost to inverting buck-boost operations.

The switching frequency is automatically adjusted to maintain maximum efficiency on loads of various sizes over the entire input voltage range, which helps minimize the size of external components. The device also offers integrated over-voltage and over-temperature protection, as well as output voltage monitoring with selectable impedance level of 0.5V or 5V for protection.

As the device is able to deliver up to 10 W of output power with an efficiency of >85%, it is suitable for a wide range of applications, including powering handheld and wireless devices, and providing reliable high-efficiency power for communications and medical equipment. It is ideal for applications that require a low standby current, robust EMC performance and reliable operation with wide temperature range.
