DC-DC converters are widely used in today’s electronic systems. From small microcontrollers to large industrial systems, DC-DC converters have enabled high power density, low power dissipation and reliable efficiency performance. In this article, we will take a look at VI-BTP-EV-S application field and working principle for DC-DC converters.

VI-BTP-EV-S is a type of step-up DC-DC converter. It is suitable for wide input voltage range applications (3V-40V for most cases), and it offers up to 16W output power. The VI-BTP-EV-S integrates a MOSFET with a built-in avalanche energy-saving device. The device can rapidly turn on and off at a high frequency, thus increasing the efficiency of the system. Additionally, VI-BTP-EV-S converts the input current of P-channel into the output voltage Vout, and feedback the output voltage Vout to the current compensated error amplifier through the current sense resistor RSC. Here RSC serves to reduce the current stress on the power MOSFET.

The VI-BTP-EV-S converter uses a high power density MOSFET and current regulated constant frequency PWM control for optimal efficiency. The MOSFET has an integrated current limiting circuit and a built-in timer for improved system protection. The input voltage is monitored to ensure the output will not over-voltage. The output voltage can be adjusted with the voltage setting pin.

In addition to that, VI-BTP-EV-S offers an integrated EMI filter circuit, which can reduce from 30% to 50% of the conducted EMI lines. The filter circuit works in parallel with the power converter. The EMI filter also reduces transmission of unwanted electrical noise, that might otherwise cause interference with other circuits.
