DC DC Converters

DC-DC converters are used for electrical power conversions from one DC voltage to another, usually lower but sometimes higher DC voltage, while also providing isolation and often performing polarity reversal, voltage step up, step down or voltage regulation. The most commonly used DC-DC converter is the VI-J4Y-EZ-S.
Designed for use in utility integrated network systems, the VI-J4Y-EZ-S converter provides a fully balanced three-port power delivery solution for single-phase applications. The total power capacity of the system includes the main input and main output power sources, as well as port-side power outputs. This operating system is composed of a two-phase semi-controlled dual-input bridge converter, and two separate auxiliary circuits, each consisting of a single-phase, semi-controlled power delivery chain and an active AC/DC power factor correction stage.

Working Principle

The working principle of a DC-DC converter is based on the fact that when a direct current is applied to a two-terminal device, the output voltage is dependent on the ratio of the voltage applied. In the two-terminal device used for DC-DC conversion, an inductive component (a coil) is used to create a magnetic field. The changing magnetic field induces a current in the form of AC voltage in the secondary winding. This voltage can then be rectified and regulated to create the desired output voltage.

The VI-J4Y-EZ-S converter has two inputs (primary and auxiliary) and two outputs (main and secondary), enabling it to accept a wider range of input voltages than most single-phase DC-DC converters.
