DC–DC converters or switching regulators are closed-loop power processing circuits in which a regulated voltage or current is obtained from the unregulared input source. The most common application for a DC to DC converter is in the field of power management as computer power supplies. They can also be found in many other applications, such as in the creation of sub-power supplies, automotive and avation applications, battery chargers, and consumer products.
The VI-JWF-CX type of DC–DC converter is designed to meet the sophisticated needs demanded of modern, smaller and faster technology. It is a highly efficient switching regulator that combines superior power performance with a low cost solution. The VI-JWF-CX features a high power density, high efficiency, wide input voltage range, low output ripple, and an adjustable output voltage from 6 to 18V.
The VI-JWF-CX can be used for DC to DC conversion, or for voltage regulation of existing DC sources. It is an excellent choice for both high-power and low-power applications, such as LCDs, LED lighting, and power management devices, as well as mobile computing. It is also designed for cost and size sensitive applications, thanks to its high power density, low Ripple, and small size.
The working principle of the VI-JWF-CX is based on the use of switching components to alternately connect and disconnect the input voltage and a suitable output voltage, with the duty cycle of the switching kept constant so that the average output voltage equals the requested output voltage. The output voltage can be regulated with an adjustable current limit and an adjustable output voltage set via a Triac (triode for Alternating Current) circuit.
The VI-JWF-CX is composed of a power transformer, an input rectifier, an output regulator, an output sense amplifier, and various control and protection circuits. The input voltage is stepped down by the transformer and rectified by the input rectifier, then the output regulator modulates the output voltage according to the voltage set by the duty cycle of the Triac, and follows the input voltage. The sense amplifier serves to detect the voltage error, and provide feedback to the Triac to compensate for any deviations. The VI-JWF-CX can also feature a low voltage protection circuit, over load protection circuit, as well as a voltage crowbar circuit.
