Working Principle

SCR consists of a four-layer PNPN semiconductor structure consisting of a small, positive-negative-charge region with a positive and negative contact, which are connected to a control gate. In order to turn-on the VS-P403 module, the gate must receive a pulse of energy, afterwhich a current flow across the device will be established and sustained until the current drops below a certain threshold. Current control is achieved by opening or closing the gate, allowing or preventing current flow across the device.

The VS-P403 features a forward voltage drop of 1.5V @25oC and a current rating of up to 400A. It also provides high voltage isolation and does not require a heat dissipator or heat sink for cooling. It is also able to latch using an internal shunt. The device is available in several packages and can be used with a variety of gate trigger circuits.
