Thyristors - SCRs - Modules
VS-P432 Application Field and Working Principle
The VS-P432 is a gate-controlled 4-terminal semiconductor switching device which is commonly referred to as a silicon-controlled rectifier or SCR. It is a member of Thyristors - SCRs - Modules family, and is most often used to control power in applications such as AC motor speed and power regulation, battery charge/discharge control, switching mode power supply, heating, lighting and battery management.
The device consists of four electrodes - an anode (A), a cathode (K), a gate (G), and a body-connect (B). The anode carries the positive voltage, while the cathode carries the negative voltage. The gate controls the turning on and off of the anode-cathode connection, while the body-connect separates the anode and cathode, preventing current flow unless the gate voltage is high enough. When anode-cathode voltage is applied, and a certain gate current is generated, the SCR will turn on. Once it is on, the anode-cathode connection remains in a conducting state as long as the anode-cathode voltage remains on.
The VS-P432 has a maximum peak repetitive off-state voltage of 432 volts, and a maximum gate trigger current of 10 milliamps with a preset minimum gate trigger voltage of 1.5 volts. It has a maximum resistance of 0.09 ohms, and a maximum dv/dt of 5000 volts/microsecond. The device is designed to operate at temperatures up to 150 degrees Celsius but is protected against over temperature by a built in temperature sensing device which prevents the gate current from reaching the triggering threshold.
When using the VS-P432 as a power regulator, the gate-controlled silicon-controlled rectifier can be used to control the speed of a motor by controlling the voltage applied to the motor. This is done by using the gate voltage to regulate the amount of current that can flow through the anode-cathode connection, thus regulating the speed of the motor. It can also be used to regulate the power to a battery by controlling the amount of current allowed to flow from the source to the battery. This is done by controlling the amount of current allowed to flow from the anode to the cathode through the gate, thus regulating the amount of power that is supplied to the battery.
The VS-P432 is also used in switching mode power supplies to convert AC voltage to DC voltage. It is used to switch the incoming AC voltage on and off at a rate determined by the gate voltage, thus controlling the level of output DC voltage. This is one of the main components of switching mode power supplies, as it is the device that allows for the control of the output voltage. Lastly, the VS-P432 is also used in heating applications as it can be used to control the amount of current flowing through a heating element, thus controlling the temperature.
Overall, the VS-P432 is an extremely versatile device and is used in a variety of applications such as the regulation of motor speed and power, battery charge/discharge control, switching mode power supplies, heating, and lighting. It consists of four electrodes - an anode (A), a cathode (K), a gate (G) and a body-connect (B) - and has a maximum peak repetitive off-state voltage of 432 volts, a maximum gate trigger current of 10 milliamps and a maximum resistance of 0.09 ohms.
