VS-T90RIA10 is a Thyristors module which is developed by IXYS Corp. Its application field and working principle will be discussed in this article.

Overview

VS-T90RIA10 is a three-phases Thyristors, Diode, and Gate module. It is designed for AC switching applications, and it combines the functional requirements of a Diode, and Thrystors. The main feature of it is combining with a built-in free-Wheel Diode to protect circuit from surge current. It is also able to bear high current and to maintain high switching frequency and low power dissipation.

Application field

VS-T90RIA10 is widely used in motor control, welding machine, AC/DC converters and Small Low Voltage AC power transmission system. It is also effectively used in lighting applications, such as AC Dimming, Street Lights and Floodlights.

Working principle

As the name suggests, VS-T90RIA10 is the combination of Thyristors, Gates, and Diodes. The Thyristor is a two or four-layer semiconductor device. They are used to control the current flow and to enhance the switching systems. The gates are used to trigger the semiconductor devices. The working principle of a thyristor is based on the controlling of current by switching the gates on and off.

When the gate is switched on, the current flows through the thyristor and it activates the switch. The thyristor then acts like a rectifier and changes the AC voltage to Switching Voltage to operate the other devices. The reverse current is prevented by the internal free-Wheeling diode.

The thyristor controls the power flow and restricts the current flow in the circuit. The power flow is controlled by the Thyristor or Gate to ensure that the output is maintained at a certain level. The diode ensures that the voltage level is maintained constant, and it also reduces the power dissipation. The voltage and current are maintained in the circuit by the Thyristor and the ratio of the current and voltage is kept in check.
