Thyristors, which are also known as Silicon Controlled Rectifiers (SCRs), are special types of semi-conductors that can only be triggered into the “on” state when a certain voltage threshold is reached. They are essentially a means of controlling the flow of electricity in alternating current (AC) circuits, and are widely used in applications such as dimming lights and regulating motor speed.
