Thyristors - SCRs - Modules
The VS-VSKT105/08 is a type of semiconductor component that falls into the category of thyristors, which are also known as silicon-controlled rectifiers (SCRs). In essence, these are a type of four-layered, three-terminal, voltage-controlled devices used to control the flow of electricity in a circuit. They are often referred to as “switches” due to their ability to switch the flow of current, similar to a transistor. These devices are available in a variety of packages and configurations for a range of different applications.
Application Field
The VS-VSKT105/08 is a very versatile device and is used in a wide variety of applications across many types of industries. Some of the more common applications include motor control, power supply control, lighting control, power conversion and voltage regulation. The device can be used to monitor both AC and DC currents, making it suitable for both industrial and commercial applications. Its versatile configuration also allows it to be used in applications involving both high and low temperature environments.
The VS-VSKT105/08 is typically used in low-power, low-voltage applications such as dimmers, inverters, starters and lamp ballasts, as well as in high-power, high-voltage applications such as converters, power supplies and rectifiers. It is also used in applications involving circuit protection, such as in over-current, over-voltage and over-temperature protection.
Working Principle
The VS-VSKT105/08 operates on the principle of four-layer PNPN switching. The device consists of four terminal layers of alternating P-type and N-type material, arranged in a two-by-two grid and connected by single layer of N-type material. Each of the four layers includes a gate terminal at its center. The four layers form two sets of P-N junctions, with one set connected to the gate terminal and the other to the cathode terminal.
When a forward bias voltage is applied to the gate terminal, the resulting electrostatic field causes the junction between the P-type and N-type layers to “breakdown” and allow current to flow. This is known as the “forward conduction mode” of the device. When the applied voltage is reversed, the P-N junctions return to their original conductive state, and the device returns to the “off” state.
The device’s diode circuit has two sets of terminals, the anode and cathode. The anode terminal receives the positive voltage and is connected to the gate terminal via a resistor. The cathode terminal is connected to the negative voltage and is connected to the other end of the resistor. When the current flows through the device, it creates a controlled current path that can be used to control the flow of electricity in a circuit.
The VS-VSKT105/08 is typically used in applications that require high-side current control, such as power supplies and motor starters. In addition, the device is often used in over-current and over-voltage protection applications. It can be used in both AC and DC circuits and is designed to operate at temperatures up to 150°C.
