Working Principle

When a forward bias voltage is applied to the gate terminal, the resulting electrostatic field causes the junction between the P-type and N-type layers to “breakdown” and allow current to flow. This is known as the “forward conduction mode” of the device. When the applied voltage is reversed, the P-N junctions return to their original conductive state, and the device returns to the “off” state.

The device’s diode circuit has two sets of terminals, the anode and cathode. The anode terminal receives the positive voltage and is connected to the gate terminal via a resistor. The cathode terminal is connected to the negative voltage and is connected to the other end of the resistor.
