    • The VS-VSKT136/12PBF is a bidirectional triac used in AC switching and phase control applications. It is a two-quadrant device with two digit numbers for rating. This triac is a surface mount device with an impressive current handling capacity of up to 16A and a holding current range from 0.2 to 1A. The on-state voltage drop of this device is fairly low, and the voltage at which it can be triggered is 6V at a maximum, making it ideal for blocking and inrush current protection applications.
    • Application Field
    • The VS-VSKT136/12PBF is often used in solid-state AC switching, motor speed control centers, safety circuits, and even lamp dimmers. This triac can also be used to control electric heater elements in fan-forced ovens, ovens, and air-conditioners.     • Working Principle
    • Like all other triacs, the VS-VSKT136/12PBF operates on the principle of electric power being switched on or off when current is passed through it. The triac is composed of two “fingers” of alternating P-type and N-type semiconductor pieces; a positive side and a negative side are thereby created. When electric power is applied to the triac, current passing through it will switch on the electric power in the positive side, thus turning the device on and allowing electric power to flow through it. In order to switch off the device, the current path must be broken by means of varying the voltage applied to the triac. The amount of current running through the triac can be modulated by varying the voltage and the device will remain switched off in its off-state, thus ensuring safety.
