VS-VSKT26/10 application field and working principle
The VS-VSKT26/10 is a kind of semiconductor type solid state switch, which is usually known as SCR or thyristor. It is constructed with a semiconductor anode, cathode and gate electrodes, as well as an isolation diode connecting the anode and cathode electrodes. It is designed for usage in industrial, commercial and consumer applications for both AC and DC uses. Generally, this piece of equipment can handle power of up to 10 Amps under an operating voltage of around 40V for DC and 400 V for AC.
A general concept of a thyristor is that it is composed of four major parts: an Anode, a Cathode and a Control Gate. The anode and cathode are typically connected to cables that contain a voltage that goes in a certain direction. The current then passes through the semiconductor material, being blocked off until the Control Gate receives a certain amount of current. When the Input Voltage is at a certain level, the device will become ‘on’ allowing the current to flow through the semiconductor material - when the Voltage is lower than that certain level, the device will turn off.
When the thyristor is in the off-state, the current applied to the gate is blocked and the current does not flow through the anode. This prevents the thyristor from having a forward voltage drop and thus no power has to be dissipated. The gate voltage needs to be kept below its Gate Leakage Voltage to avoid damage. When using the VS-VSKT26/10 it is also necessary to take into account the maximum allowable On Voltage and the Maximum Gate-current levels of the device.
