Working Principle
The working principle of VSC7112XJW is based on the conversion of optical signals into electrical signals and vice versa. The transmission device uses multiple LEDs (light-emitting diodes) at its input side to transmit the signal in accordance to the medium-level protocols, as well as its different modulation used. On its output side, either an Amplifier is used to transfer signals or a photodetector increases the sensitivity of the receiver. The eye pattern of the receiver is usually placed side-by-side to the transmitter, which is activated successively.
The transmitting side (Tx) is the process of converting base-band signals such as 10 Mbps Ethernet packets into an optical signal. Here, the information from the Ethernet is encoded with a line coding scheme (like Manchester or 8B10B) and this signal is combined with the carrier frequency. The resulting signal is then passed through the laser diode for transmission. The receiver (Rx) side performs the reverse function of decoding the received optical signal and restoring it to base-band form.
This transceiver is also capable of carrying out bidirectional transmissions. This is achieved through the use of an opto-coupler, which is placed beside the laser diode. This coupler is used to draw the optical signal transmitted from one source and carrying it to the other. This device also allows the communication of two separate transmission systems to take place simultaneously in the bi-directional mode.
