Circuit Breakers
W58-XB1A4A-4
Application Field
Working Principle
The W58-XB1A4A-4 is a mini circuit breaker from Siemens, and is used in a wide range of applications requiring electrical protection. The breaker is rated for up to a maximum of 125 Volts and up to 15 Amps, and is therefore suitable for use in residential and commercial settings. It is commonly used for protection for lighting circuits, lighting loads, and general purpose load circuits, and can also be used for control and signalling applications. The breaker is available in both 1-pole and 2-pole varieties, and is UL Listed and CSA Certified.
At its most basic level, the working principle of the W58-XB1A4A-4 is similar to that of any other circuit breaker. It operates on the principle of short circuit current division, and it is designed to interrupt current flows whenever the current passing through it exceeds a certain threshold. The breaker is designed to trip when the current passing through it reaches 8.0 Amps, at which point its internal electrical contacts separate, breaking the circuit and protecting the downstream circuit components. In order to reset the breaker, the on/off control lever must be moved back to the “on” position. This resets the internal contacts and allows current to flow again. If a fault situation arises again and the current passing through the breaker exceeds the 8.0 Amp limit, the breaker will trip and the process must be repeated.
