Introduction

The X-NUCLEO-IDW04A1 (referred to from now on as “the board”) is an evaluation board for STMicroelectronics’ family of WEMOS D1 based boards, as well as offering developers the opportunity to explore features of the company\'s STM32F4 based microcontrollers. The board is a member of STM32 Open Development Environment, and provides a comprehensive set of hardware and software tools to evaluate the capabilities of the microcontroller. It is designed to function as an Arduino shield to quickly and easily connect to the host processor.

Application Field and Working Principle

The X-NUCLEO-IDW04A1 board is primarily intended for use in evaluating the WEMOS D1 based boards, by providing a convenient platform to connect the target device during evaluation or development. It is also for use in evaluating the STM32F4 microcontroller and its associated features, as featured on the STM32 Open Development Environment. This opens up a range of possibilities for the developer, ranging from easy prototyping of applications, to a comprehensive measure of the device performance.The board features the same range of sensors and other peripherals found in the D1 based boards, including temperature and humidity sensors, accelerometer, gyroscope and magnetometer, as well as visual programming software for its graphical interface. The graphical programming language is designed to be easy to use, with a drag-and-drop interface allowing users to quickly and easily develop complex applications.The board is powered by an STM32F4 Cortex-M4 ARM-based microcontroller, running at 168 MHz. The board features a range of connectivity options, such as I2C, SPI, USB and multiple MCU and MCU-independent bus interfaces. The X-NUCLEO-IDW04A1 board also has a 12-bit analog-to-digital converter and an array of 16 LEDs to provide visual feedback on MCU activities. The board also has an OLED display for displaying information related to the MCU status.
