The X-NUCLEO-IHM13A1 is a STM32 Motor Control board with an embedded STSPIN233 motor controller based on a 3-phase driver architecture. It allows the user to explore, evaluate and develop 3-phase brushless DC (BLDC), Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) and stepper motor (SM) applications. The embedded STSPIN233 can drive currents up to 6 A per bridge with excellent efficiency and Industrial-performance with Elliptic Control. The STSPIN233 is an integrated system-in-package solution that contains a complete 3-phase motor control subsystem, including: driver stage with three half bridges, a dedicated current sensing circuit and a state machine that tracks the rotor position (closed-loop applications only).

The X-NUCLEO-IHM13A1 card is populated with 24 V low-resistance MOSFETs (4.5 mΩ / 2.5 mΩ on low side / high side) and specifically adapted to provide first class motor control performance for a wide range of motors. Signals to control the low side and high side Gate Drivers are provided on two 4-pin 2 × 2 headers. Connections are also available for Hall Effect sensors, an encoder, a potentiometer and a temperature sensor, suitable for motor control feedback systems.

The X-NUCLEO-IHM13A1 board is supported by one STM32 Nucleo-32 Board (STM32F302RE) to provide a complete, miniaturized and low-power solution perfect for prototyping, evaluation and product development. The STM32 Nucleo-32 sockets provide a powerful support framework and the STM32F302RE is STM32 compatible with a wide range of software tools available, including STM32CubeMX for STM32 configuration and initialization, and ST Motor Workbench to manage all the Three-Phase Motor Control solutions. The all-in-one board is ideal for exploring complete motor control applications and for incorporating motor control functions into end products.

The X-NUCLEO-IHM13A1 board is primarily intended to demonstrate the motor control solutions, but also allows users to evaluate the dynamic performance of the STSPIN233. The board can be configured for either field-oriented or trapezoidal control of the BLDC, PMSM or stepper motor, and provides a graphical user interface to enable easy tuning of motor control parameters. It also offers standard data logging functions to enable benchmarking of the motor control system against different power supplies.
