The X-NUCLEO-IHM17M1 is a board specially designed for brushless dc motor control. It serves as an evaluation board for ST\'s STSPIN230 MotoMate motor driver IC, as well as the expansion board for the STM32 Nucleo family. The main purpose of this board is to provide applications where a low cost and compact motor control system is needed.
The board allows direct connection to an external power source, and is equipped with a 3-A current rated motor control stage on board. Other features include SPI connections for motor control, a 6.5V to 24V motor power supply range, and a four-quadrant motor controller with adjustable PWM switching frequency. The current sensing boards have ±5V range, 2A continuous drift, and -20db rejection of any ripple. Up to 12V on board microcontroller power is possible.
The X-NUCLEO-IHM17M1 consists of the STSPIN230 motor driver IC and an STM32F103 microcontroller. The microcontroller is used to control the STSPIN230 via I2C and SPI. The STSPIN230 device has an integrated power stage and current sensing. The power stage can produce up to 3A continuous current and is protected by over-current and over-temperature protection. With the current sensing provided on board, the motor current can be controlled in proportion or inversely proportional to the voltage input.
The STSPIN230 motor driver has a 4-quadrant driver with adjustable PWM switching frequency, allowing for smooth and efficient motor control. It also features end-of-turn fault detection, which can be used to detect motor failure and communicate it to the control system. The X-NUCLEO-IHM17M1 board can also be used to control and monitor the motor using the STM32F103 microcontroller through I2C and SPI.
The STM32F103 microcontroller is used to interface with the STSPIN230 motor driver for controlling and monitoring the motor. It has multiple peripherals with which the board can be programmed to control the motor. It also has an integrated ADC module for measuring motor position and speed, as well as a PWM generator for controlling the motor direction. The microcontroller\'s I2C and SPI communication can be used to communicate with the STSPIN230 driver.
The X-NUCLEO-IHM17M1 can be used for all type of brushless DC motor applications, such as drones, robotics, automotive, medical, and industrial.
