The X9313WSZ-3 is a digital potentiometer of the X9C family manufactured by Intersil. It is a 3-Terminal, single-turn, adjustable non-volatile memory, which can be used as a voltage divider or a programmable digital logic control. This device is ideal for use in applications, such as digital controls, data acquisition, voltage dividers, digital audio controls, and motor control, for example.

The X9313WSZ-3 package is a small 8-pin Dual In-line Package (DIP). It contains the potentiometer, a serial shift register, and non-volatile memory. The potentiometer core provides eight resistance steps between the wipers and the peripheral pins. The linear control of the potentiometer and its resistance can be adjusted automatically or by programming from the application software.

The active principle of the X9313WSZ-3 is based on the use of an on-chip resistive ladder network as a voltage divider with a varying resistance of between 5K and 7.5K ohms. Depending on the application, the resolution of this voltage divider can be adjusted between 4 bit and 12 bit, both in positive and negative directions.

The X9313WSZ-3 can be used in three different operation modes. The Single-Ended Mode is optimized for Voltage Divider applications. The Volts-Temp Mode is used for applications that require temperature compensation. The Differential Mode is used in applications where it is necessary to match the voltages on two outputs pins by adjusting the resistance of the potentiometer.
