XCR3256XL-12FTG256C is an embedded-type complex programmable logic device (CPLD) produced by Xilinx Corporation. It is a subset of the FPGA family of programmable logic devices and is characterized by its low power consumption, low cost, and high-performance digital logic capabilities.The XCR3256XL-12FTG256C is ideal for data acquisition, signal conditioning, and control system design. It is also suitable for use in communications and networking. The device is capable of supporting up to 33 K gates as well as 256 I/Os.The device is composed of three main components – an initialization circuit, logic unit, and termination circuit. The initialization circuit facilitates the configuration of the device and is responsible for loading the configuration data. The logic unit is composed of up to 33 K look up table (LUT) slices and is used to implement the user’s desired logic. The termination circuit ensures proper termination and protection of the inputs and outputs.The logic unit is made up of configurable logic blocks (CLBs) which contain a slice of look-up-table (LUT) logic and an embedded register. The CLBs are connected to each other through programmable routing channels which are composed of connection points. The connection points are connected to configurable moveable switch blocks (MSBs) to form the routing channels.The connection points can be programmed to operate as either input or output pins depending on the user’s needs. The data flows through the routing channels in one direction thus enabling the device to process information in both serial and parallel formats.The XCR3256XL-12FTG256C has also been designed for ease-of-use. Users are able to program the device via Verilog or VHDL code. Alternately, users can configure the device with Xilinx’s graphical design suite.The XCR3256XL-12FTG256C is an ideal device for selection due to its small size, low power consumption, and high performance. It is a good choice for embedded applications in communications and networking. Furthermore, it’s programmability and low cost make it attractive to engineers and designers working on tight budgets.
