Oscillators are devices that generate an electrical output signal in the form of a periodic waveform or pulse train. XG-2121CA 312.5000M-LGPAB oscillators can be broadly categorized into two types – voltage-controlled oscillators (VCO) and temperature-compensated-crystal oscillators (TCXO).
XG-2121CA 312.5000M-LGPAB from ASTropower is an automotive grade temperature compensation VCO solution that operates at a frequency of 312.5000 MHz. It utilizes specific designed Colpitts oscillator with temperature compensated resonator (TCR) to maintain the output frequency even when the ambient temperature varies. This helps to reduce the components requirement in the system, increase efficiency and reduce system cost.
XG-2121CA 312.5000M-LGPAB provides wide range tuning voltage from 0.5V to 3.5V, with good linearity. This makes the oscillator suitable for various automotive applications such as Automotive wireless gateway, radar transceivers, drive assistance systems, and location based system. The oscillator has unit-to-unit frequency stability of 10.00 ppm from -30 to 80 degree Celsius, enabling extreme temperature support.
The oscillator comes with a wide range of input capacitor with various values, allowing flexible operations. It features high precision and lower noise level, making it suitable for ultra-sensitive and critical applications. Its compact package has the size of 3.2*2.5 mm3, making it perfect for space constrained high frequency applications. XG-2121CA 312.5000M-LGPAB has excellent noise suppression ability and low phase noise, which makes it suitable for applications with low signal to noise ratio like telecommunication.
The working principle of XG-2121CA 312.5000M-LGPAB is based on Colpitts oscillator with temperature compensation. It has two feedback channels formed by two capacitors with different values. One of them covers a large range of temperature and its variation resists the extreme temperature. The oscillator utilizes an amplifier powered by the high frequency input signal where its gain is usually around 1. The Colpitts oscillator works based on the positive or negative feedback principle which keeps the current in the loop constant, and its strength determines the frequency of the output signal.
Apart from temperature compensated VCO, XG-2121CA 312.5000M-LGPAB also comes with two other options – traditional VCO and 3.3V regulated supply. These enable the operating voltage of the oscillator adjustable and as low as 3.3V, making it compatible with most automotive systems. It also offers robust EMI/RFI shielding that helps to reduce interference from the automobile environment effectively.
