The XK-AVB-LC-SYS Evaluation & Demonstration Board is a powerful and versatile system for evaluating and demonstrating the latest AVB (Audio Video Bridging) standards features from Xilinx. This system’s primary purpose is to allow the user to better understand the complex AVB standards and the integration with Xilinx technologies. The system enables engineers to quickly test various scenarios for meeting the standards, rapidly debug problems, and improve troubleshooting skills.The XK-AVB-LC-SYS system consists of a Xilinx Virtex-6 FPGA and its associated evaluation board, an AVB Reference Design, a Linux host application, and a Windows- or Linux-based transcoding host. Additionally, the system includes a comprehensive test suite for sound evaluation and debugging of the system.The Xilinx Virtex-6 FPGA contains the physical layer of AVB and therefore provides all of the system’s 10 Gb/s Ethernet capabilities. Additionally, the provided evaluation board comes with two SFP+ ports and enables the user to test different speeds and configurations. For example, it is possible to test different combinations of lanes (1G, 2.5G, 5G, or 10G). The FPGA board also leverages many of Xilinx\'s blocks such as integrated protocol blocks, ELMB, DCI, transceivers and transponders. The AVB Reference Design contains the AVB software components for the FPGA. These components are composed of an EtherNet/IP (AVB) packetizing processor, a secondary link controller, a stream controller, a time synchronization controller, and a physical layer interface. The FPGA-side component provides the user with an authoritative source of AVB data, which is then used to generate the network traffic over the wire.The Linux host application provides the user with an API that enables them to program and interact with the FPGA AVB components. In addition, the application is capable of benchmarking different AVB scenarios. This allows for the user to easily tune their application and optimize their design.The Windows- or Linux-based transcoding host enables the system to be able to decode and encode the AVB content. The transcoding host is also capable of playing back the encoded content. This provides the user with an interactive experience and allows an end user to evaluate the AVB system easily.Finally, the detailed test suite provides several scripts that allow the user to accurately benchmark their AVB design. These tests allow the user to evaluate characteristics such as delay, jitter and packet loss. This is very useful in ensuring that the system meets the specified AVB protocol requirements.
