The XR16C854CVTR-F is a high performance, universal asynchronous receiver transmitter (UART) with 16 byte FIFOs and selectable function. It is based on USART core with integrated fractional baud rate generator, wakeup by address recognition and slave interface extension support.

The device has wide application in the field of serial data communications. It supports line speeds up to 2.5 Mbps, even at low voltage, and has full-duplex serial data links. It supports low frequency crystal oscillators (LFXO) and all standard serial formats, such as RS-232, RS-422 and RS-485, ensuring compatibility among various Serial I/O devices. Furthermore, the device supports nine modes of programmable operation and one external request mode.

Working principle of XR16C854CVTR-F UARTs, is similar to other UARTs. It has two data lines, one that transmits data from the device to another one, which is called the transmit line, and another for receiving data from the other end, that is the receive line.
